This course is like a computer science course, with focus on 'How to be an independent developer'.

Despite its name, a significant amount of computer science does not involve the study of computers themselves.

We like to follow the Danish scientist Peter Naur and prefer to call this course JWES Datalogy, to reflect the fact that the discipline revolves around data and data treatment, while not necessarily involving computers.

The broader field of database development encompasses both the classical theory of computation and a wide range of other topics that focus on the more abstract, logical, and mathematical aspects of RDBMS development.

The relationship between computer science and software engineering is a contentious issue, which is further muddied by disputes over what the term "software engineering" means, and how computer science is defined.

JWES Datalogy is studying the properties of developing database applications in general, with a special focus on all the aspects involved prior, during and after an application is deployed.

This is a 4 months course at 2 x 2 hours a week.

2 hours lecture and 2 hours lab.
